As part of the celebration, the Trades Union Congress (Ghana) organized regional fora in all the regions and a national celebration in Tamale to commemorate the day.
The occasion was used to discuss pertinent gender issues within the regions and the role of trade unions in addressing these issues.
The TUC (Ghana) also issued a press statement reaffirming its commitment to advancing the cause of women. In relation to the theme for the celebration, the TUC called on all trade unions to advocate and campaign for the right policies to protect the rights of women and girls in digital spaces, including online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.
The occasion was also used to call on Government to facilitate the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill (AAB).
The TUC also called on the government to accelerate the process towards ratifying the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 190 on Violence and Harassment in the World of Work.
It further urged the government to fast-track the ratification of ILO Convention 183 on Maternity Protection to extend the period of maternity leave to at least 14 weeks to better protect women.
