The 2021 TUC staff retreat and planning meeting is taking place in Ho – the Volta Regional capital from 28th November – 3rd December 2021. Secretary-General of the TUC, Dr Yaw Baah, welcomed all staff and hinted that this year’s planning meeting will be different, He said “we are working on areas around which we will build teams so that every individual knows and understands which area to focus on, for better results.
Programme manager of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Brother Ebo Mensah, funders of the retreat, spoke on behalf of the FES country director and said for the 2nd part of this year, our both organisations have been together for most TUC’s programmes. Brother Mensah asked for self-introspection to track our work, even as individuals, to see if we are still focused and on course. “That, whatever we do, responds to the current challenges of the ordinary Ghanaian worker.”
Deputy Secretary-General of the TUC, Brother Joshua Ansah reiterated the point on evaluating our work for the past year and planning for 2022. The Deputy Secretary-General took us through the planned programme and asked all staff to contribute and do their part to ensure that the objective of the retreat is achieved.
Some staff shared their views and were of the opinion that these retreats and planning meetings have over the years, given them direction and purpose for their work, and as well, focused them on the way forward.
Work for the year 2022 would be on TUC’s many campaigns including that on a living wage rather than the current minimum wage which is seriously inadequate. Current salaries are nothing, compared with salaries of some State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) which present yawning inequalities that simply need to be fixed.
